Course Overview

This course has
been awarded 1 AOA CPC credit hours. It is intended for beginning and
intermediate levels. The student should be able to demonstrate
the following concepts:

  • Define Motility
  • Identify the 9 postions for testing versions
  • Describe why the pupil light reflex is important in assesing motility and versions
  • Identify abnormal versions and state which position is abnormal
  • Define Eso, Exo, Hyper, Phoria, and Tropia
  • Document Esophorias, Exophorias, Esotropias, and Exotropias correctly
  • Identify how to document straight eyes
  • Explain how to do Hirschberg and Krimsky measurements
  • Identify deviations in diopters by Hirschberg estimation
  • Describe how to perform the Cover/Uncover test
  • Correctly identify esophoria, exophoria, esotropia, exotropia and ortho eyes on cover/uncover test simulations

This course is in power point
format and includes multiple simulations of motility problems that you
might encounter in the clinic setting. These simulations are included
to aid in your understanding of how to identify, label, and measure
motility. They mimic real motility situations so that you may follow
along and see how to identify motility issues while having it explained
to you. Once you have completed this course you should be able to
perform basic motility testing and label eso and exo deviations in your
clinic.

Here is what some ophthalmic personnel who took this course had to say:

“This was great. If you are rusty, it will definately bring it all back.” M.P., COMT

“Well done.” N.P., COT

“Very good graphics, easy to understand.” K.K., op. photo.

“Good animation/simulation” S.B., COT

“I
wish I would have had these simulations when I was in Tech school!
Perhaps the light bulb would have turned on sooner and alleviated a lot
of the “strabismus anxiety”!” B.R., COMT

“it was very good…best I have ever seen” D.F., COA

“GREAT” C.S., Laser tech

“Very helpful due to the visuals” K.F., COT

“Great course!” J.H., COT

“Excellent technique!” E.C., COMT

This course should take approximately one and a half hours to complete.

Upon
completion of this section the student will take a post-test
that will test his/her knowledge of the items mentioned above.
You must correctly answer at least 15 of the 20 questions on the open
book post test to earn credit.  If you do not successfully pass the post test the first time you
may try again at no expense to you.

Successful completion of the post-test is required to receive AOA CPC credit.
