It is intended for intermediate, and advanced levels. We advise having an understanding of basic Neuro ophthalmology prior to taking this course. This course covers intermediate to advanced level information on Neuro Ophthalmology and is presented online through Eye-Courses.com.
After completing this section, the student should be able to do the following:
- Identify a neuron and its parts
- Define afferent and efferent nerve pathways
- List 3 pathways of axons in the Central and Peripheral Nervous systems
- Define Saltatory conduction
- List Neurotransmitters in the autonomic nervous system
- Identify the enzymes that break down neurotransmitters
- Recognize the parts of the Central Nervous System
- List the 3 parts of the brainstem
- Identify the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th cranial nerves, including the names and if they are sensory or motor nerves
- List the 5 eye movement systems
- Define saccades and pursuits
- Identify what is being tested when using the optokinetic drum
- Define the MLF
- Recognize what the PPRF is responsible for doing
- Identify what an INO would look like
- Define Infranuclear pathway
- Trace the pathways of the 3rd, 4th and 6th cranial nerves from their nuclei to the muscles they innervate
- List what would result from palsies of the 3rd, 4th and 6th cranial nerves
- Match different lesions to their symptoms
This course should take approximately one hour to complete.
